The official website of Chrissy looker……… Lanzarotes top male singer/ entertainer.
For the best nights entertainment in Lanzarote , Established for many years in lanzarote……….,
providing first class entertainment to hotels , restaurants , complexes , bars and all other live music venues in Lanzarote.
Christopher Tony Looker was born on 30th may 1962 at Mile
end hospital in Stepney, East London.
He is the youngest of three sons born to Joan and Fred Looker……
Steve being the eldest , and then Patrick in the middle.
He attended Cayley Primary School and then went on to Sir
John Cass Secondary.
At the age of 12 he opted to learn to play the guitar at
school and that’s where it all started really,
performing his first show at a theatre in London playing
guitar and singing
“Mr Tambourine Man” and “Red River Rock” in an inter schools
talent show
where he and his pal Tony Feeman finished 3rd.
After this “Chrissy” (as he has always been affectionately called) really got the music bug and him and his mates from the estate where he lived (The Ocean Estate…..the estate where Billy Ocean also grew up….hence the surname) formed a band……..As Chrissy recalls….we were terrible , and just couldn´t get to grips with playing a song all the way through , so we knew the intro and first verse to all our favourite songs and then went on to the next one…..
I was elected by the band to be singer / frontman because I was the loudest and most outspoken of our lot so that was that…..Chrissy Looker the singer was let loose on the world…..well , hardly the world ,only very small audiences of 12-15 year olds at the local youth club who soon got bored with the intros and first verses…..
Needless to say the band didn´t last very long and we went our separate ways musically…. Happy to say that still to this day we are all still great friends.

Chrissy
then joined a couple of different bands over the next few years
singing all the 70s rock stuff
He
was a regular drinker at East Londons best live music venue “The
Bridge House” in Canning Town E16 , still only 15 or 16 years old
, was too young to play there but used to get served at the bar….tee
hee
One of the regular bands that played there were good Friends
of Chrissys…a band called Stacey.
Stacey broke up in the early 80s and reformed as “Relay”
with Chrissy as lead singer.
Chrissy remembers…..what a great band….and still are with the two founder members my great mates Steve Tsoi and Bobby Addis still involved , yes they´ve stood the test of time , still going strong all these years on , we did some great stuff together including recording 4 albums,3 of our own material and 1 covers album. They have since recorded two more albums… have a look at their website relay-online.com
After a few years gigging with Relay we decided to concentrate
on recording only, so, I was
doing loads of other live stuff with
other bands as well….”.heaven”…the best of both worlds As well
as performing live , I love studio work….it´s a completely different
way of working..
At the age of 24 Chrissy went into pub management ,and run a
string of successful pubs in the East End of London, eventually
buying his own pub in 1987,never drifting far from his love of
singing he did regular spots in his own pub..He First
married in 1988 , a marriage that lasted for 3 years.
In 1991 Chrissy sold his pub and went back on the singing
circuit in London.
As well as gigging as a solo singer he joined a great local
band called “Bullit”
Chrissy says…..Another great rock band .
We soon made a big impact on the London circuit gigging
regularly with a great following….
the band later changed their name to “The Chrissy Looker
Band”…not my idea….honestly !
With
work commitments from some of the guys , the band folded
a couple of years later….it was a great shame.
Chrissy re married in 1993 and had three sons…Robert , Kristopher and Ryan , this marriage ended in 1999 Chrissy was now gigging as a solo singer 8 times a week and took a more commercial direction. Now singing a wide range of songs using backing tracks , something very different to what he was used to but easily adapted to the change.
After a surprise phone call from ex bass player from “the Chrissy Looker Band”…Lee Powis, they decided to work together again . Needing a lead guitarist Chrissy circled a few possibilities in the local newspaper. Fate smiled on him here, As Chrissy recalls….Unbelievable , the first call I made from about 12 numbers turned out to be a guy called Colin Harris , Colin to me was one of the greatest guitarists id ever seen on the circuit , id seen him many times in years gone by with a band called “Passion” and had got up and sang the odd number with them , I couldn´t believe my luck , Colin had had a break from the music scene and was now ready to get back out there. We arranged a rehearsal between the three of us and hey presto….”Passion” was re-born.
Passion became one of the most successful bands on the London
circuit , soon broadening to become a very sought after wedding
and corporate function band .
What a great band we were , (if I
say so myself) , it was never like work every night was a hoot ,
had I not decided to move abroad i´m certain we would
still be working together…
I miss them guys still to this day….
Colin is now enjoying a successful music and recording
career in Portugal ,
and Lee is still working the London circuit as a solo
singer…..god bless ya both guys.
Chrissy
was now in another relationship during this period and had
another son called Mason , this relationship ended
in 2001.
2001 was a difficult year….sadly losing his mother to a long illness, Chrissy decided to move abroad to Lanzarote. He says….I`ve always loved Lanzarote , having been here on holiday many times I somehow , always felt that this was where I wanted to be. My eldest brother and his family had moved here 8 years previous and loved it…. so I made my mind up…….and booked a one way flight.
Chrissy has never looked back since , within a couple of weeks of landing here , armed with a demo disc and turning up in the live music venues to give the odd song or two , Chrissy soon made a big name as one of Lanzarotes top male singers and was working 7 nights a week. He adds…. I got a great reception from all angles ,the bar owners , other entertainers here, the residents , everyone was great and still are.
Now working seven nights a week , Chrissy decided to record the first of his three albums…. He says….I´d become great friends with Gary Newton ,a well seasoned singer over here (and a great one at that). Gary has a great recording studio here in Guime called earthshakermusic.com and i´d heard some of the stuff that he´d produced so in I went and was blown away with the result of the album “Lanzarote Gold” (available at all bad record outlets)….tee hee
They were selling at my shows like hot cakes , so I decided to record another… “From The Heart” was of equal if not better quality and another year or so on and in I went again , this time with a slightly different theme , as swing music was being totally reborn by the likes of Robbie Williams , Westlife and Michael Bublé and so on , I started to perform live….. “A Tribute To The Music Of The Big Bands”….well we´re all about the same age so if they can do it …so can i……..Ahemmm…
So I recorded the third album “Suited and Booted” which features all the Rat Pack Classics This album also got the thumbs up from all ages and again the production was tremendous….. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Gary Newton and his dear(ish) wife Jo Norfolk for all the encouragement you have given me both in and out of the studio….but i´m not gonna….. Tee Hee…….youré great friends x x x
In 2006 Chrissy decided to retrace his old roots and with a business partner took over the bar / restaurant at Club Las Adelfas , a great bar that Chrissy had sang at since coming to Lanzarote. Still singing there twice a week as well as all the other parts of the job , barman , waiter…..
He says……I never realised how much I missed this life , I've
always loved “the pub game” as we call it in the east end,and feel
i´m very suited to it and all that goes with it , I love people…
i´m
a real people person and certainly living here you meet people
from all nationalities….i love it.
Sadly due to circumstances beyond control , it looks like his time at the bar will finish in early January 2009.
He adds….Im very sad , Las Adelfas is a very special place for me , but without going into detail come early January I will be leaving the bar. My business partner and long time friend Jan Blackmore will be keeping things going the same as usual there , and I wish her all the very best for the future , also I would like to thank all the staff, past and present for their loyalty and hard work during the past two and a half years , also , to all Las Adelfas members , visitors and Lanzarote residents and friends who have supported the bar……..from my heart I thank you.
So what lies ahead……..
Good news…..Chrissy will be back on the Lanzarote music circuit
from the end of January 2009.
Watch the gig guide on this site to find out where he will
be singing.
He adds…..
Though It will be a sad day when I leave the bar , i´m very excited to be going back on the circuit, It will also give me more time to spend with my family. I live with my long time partner Lindsay and our little girl Holly, they are quite excited too. I´m also looking forward to the summer , when I will be singing at weddings and private functions, This is another trip back to my past , as mentioned previously on this page , but this time as well as the solo shows , I am teaming up with my great friend , the fantastic Gerie B . Gerie is a great artist as many visitors and residents of Lanzarote will know. Her stage prescence, fantastic vocal range and tremendous energy during her shows are second to none. Gerie and I have worked together at a couple of charity functions on the island and feedback from audiences have been great , so we decided to put the duo together alongside our solo careers…. I cant wait…..
So if you´re getting married in Lanzarote , celebrating a special anniversary or birthday, you know where to come for the best nights entertainment in Lanzarote.
Hope to see you all soon
Regards
Chrissy
